Palworld Awakening: Radiant Gems, Crystals, and Who to Power Up First

Two and a half years of asking “can my Pals evolve?” and Pocketpair finally answered with something better. Awakening is Palworld 1.0’s closest thing to a Super Saiyan button: a permanent power-up, a golden aura, and a glowing border that tells everyone on your server you did the endgame homework.

I’ve been collecting Radiant Gems all week, and this guide covers the entire system: where the gems actually come from, the real crystal recipe, the crafting chain behind it, and one honest warning about the stat numbers that other guides are printing as fact.

What Awakening Actually Does

Use an Awakening Crystal on a Pal in your party and three things happen. The Pal’s stats permanently increase, it gets a golden aura, and its level display picks up a yellow border. It’s a one-time, forever upgrade.

Now the honest part, because this is where other guides are letting you down. The exact size of the stat boost is genuinely disputed right now. The PalMods datamine found a flat 1.5x multiplier in the game files, a clean +50% to base stats. But hands-on testing from Sportskeeda measured roughly 8%, and other testers land in the 7 to 10 percent range. Those can’t both be the full story, and until Pocketpair clarifies or a per-Pal table gets datamined, treat any site quoting one exact number as guessing. What’s not disputed: it’s a real, permanent, visible upgrade, and it stacks on top of everything else you’ve done to that Pal.

The Rules That Matter

Two rules will save you from wasting weeks of farming.

One crystal per Pal, ever. Awakening cannot be repeated or upgraded. Once a Pal is awakened, that’s its final form.

Dual-type Pals lock to the first element you use. If your Pal has two elements, the first element crystal you apply sticks forever, and the game will not accept a second crystal of the other element. Credit to creator DK for testing this on camera so the rest of us didn’t have to learn it the expensive way. Pick the element before you farm the gems.

And one myth to kill: the awakening aura does NOT let you harvest World Tree resource nodes. That’s a separate system that still needs World Tree Holy Water or the right regional passive on a party Pal. The aura is power, not permission.

Radiant Gems: Where They Come From

Radiant Gems are element-typed, and they drop from Pals in the World Tree region matching their own element. Want Dark gems? Hunt Dark Pals inside the World Tree. Fire gems, fight Fire Pals. Defeating and catching both count, and you’ll collect World Tree Holy Water from the same drops, which is convenient because you need both.

The second source is the Ancient Relic Recycler, the level 74 structure that converts Ancient Relics into endgame loot, awakening gems included. If you’re running World Tree expeditions anyway, the relics pile up and the recycler turns overflow into gems while you sleep. We’ll have a full recycler guide soon.

The Crystal Recipe

One Awakening Crystal costs 50 Radiant Gems of the matching element plus 10 World Tree Holy Water, crafted at the Ancient Workbench.

Fifty element-matched gems is a real farm. Plan an evening per crystal, pick your target Pal first, and hunt its element specifically instead of vacuuming up whatever spawns.

The Crafting Chain (The Real Grind)

The crystal recipe is the easy part. The benches behind it are the actual endgame project.

Ancient Workbench (Technology level 67): 50 Soralite Ingot, 5 AI Core, 20 Bio Battery. This thing is worth it beyond awakening, it can craft nearly any item in the game. Reports say it wants a Handiwork level 6 and a Medicine level 6 Pal working it, so bring your Solenne.

Ancient Furnace first (required to smelt Soralite at all): 100 Coralum Ingot, 20 Thermal Core, 30 Computer, 10 Ancient Civilization Core. The furnace only runs with a Kindling 6 and a Cooling 6 Pal working together, which is a fun flavor detail and an annoying staffing requirement.

Soralite is the ore exclusive to Sunreach, the floating islands. You’ll see guides calling it “Sulfurite,” that’s a mishearing, search Soralite and you’ll find the right pages. Our full Sunreach guide covers the mining routes.

The sub-recipes, verified: Corrosive Solvent is Sulfur plus Venom Gland. Bio Batteries are Electric Organs, Refined Ingots, and Carbon Fiber. Computers take Circuit Boards, Pal Steel, Bio Batteries, and Carbon Fiber. AI Cores come off the Advanced Workshop tier. None of it is exotic, it’s just volume, and a good base setup handles it passively.

Who to Awaken First

The community consensus one week in, and I agree with it: awaken your best combat carry, not your favorite. A multiplier is worth the most on the biggest base stats, which means Jetragon and Necromus are the standard first picks. Your maxed-out raid carry gets more from the same 50 gems than a mid-tier buddy does.

For busy players, my honest advice is one crystal, aimed well. Awaken the Pal you actually bring to Hard Mode towers and raids. Skip awakening base workers for now, the aura doesn’t speed up Handiwork. And hold off on dual-types until you’re certain which element identity you want, because that choice is permanent.

The Quick Version

Unlock the World Tree, farm 50 element-matched Radiant Gems plus 10 Holy Water, build the Ancient Furnace then the Ancient Workbench, craft the crystal, use it on your best carry, enjoy the aura. Once per Pal, first element sticks on dual-types, and don’t trust anyone quoting an exact stat percentage until the numbers get settled.
