The World Tree got the trailer, but Sunreach is the region that made me stop and stare. A whole archipelago of islands floating above Palpagos, held up by Paldium, with its own civilization, its own ore, and a tower boss hiding behind a literal hurricane.
It’s also mandatory. The road to the World Tree runs straight through this place, so here’s how to get up there, how to break the maelstrom, and what’s worth your limited hours once you’re standing on a rock in the sky.
How to Reach Sunreach
The door to the sky is the Feybreak Tower in the far southwest (around coordinates -1294, -1669). Beat Bjorn and Bastigor, the Level 60 Ice duo, and an altar appears at the top of their tower. Interact with it and you teleport to Sunreach. That’s the whole trick, no airship required.
Realistic prep: be level 58 to 60 minimum for the Bjorn fight, bring cold-resistant armor because Feybreak is frigid, pack Fire Pals for the Ice duo, and stock decent spheres. If Bjorn is stomping you, that’s the game politely saying you’re not ready for the sky yet either.
Breaking the Maelstrom: All Six Defense Modules
The first thing you’ll notice up there is the giant whirlwind wrapped around the central tower. That’s the gate to Auri and Shaolong, the Level 68 tower fight, and it stays until you disable six defense modules scattered across the islands.
The good news: each module announces itself with a light beam you can see from almost anywhere in the region. The less good news: they’re tucked into caves, boss arenas, and enemy bases, so each one is a small fight or a small dungeon rather than a checkbox. Work through them at your own pace. When the sixth goes down, a cutscene kills the tornado, a fast travel point sits outside the tower, and the eighth tower fight is open. Our tower boss guide covers the Auri and Shaolong fight itself, including the flood phase.
Getting Around Without Falling to Your Death
Sunreach is built vertically, and the game gives you three answers. Teleport altars connect the islands, so activate every one you pass. A flying mount with real stamina (Jetragon, Eidrolon, or your favorite bird) handles the gaps between altars. And the Wing Pack, the level 80 glider, is the luxury option, genuinely great here but completely optional. Don’t wait until 80 to visit, the altars plus any decent flyer will carry you through the whole region.
Soralite: The Ore Worth the Trip
Sunreach has an exclusive ore called Soralite, and you’ll want a lot of it. Soralite Ingots feed the Ancient Workbench, the endgame weapons, and the whole Awakening pipeline we covered in our Awakening guide.
Two things to know before you swing at a node. You need the Plasma Multicutter, the level 54 tool, regular pickaxes don’t cut it. And creators report the nodes break fastest when you hit the glowing, sparkling weak spot rather than wailing on them center mass, which matched my experience. At level 72 you can skip the manual trips entirely with the Soralite Quarry structure and let your miners handle it. Until then, the ore also sells for solid gold if you’re short on cash, though most players will want every chunk for crafting.
Who Lives Up Here
Sunreach holds the biggest cluster of new 1.0 Pals outside the World Tree. The headliners are Ophydia and Eidrolon, both roaming as Level 69 field bosses, and Eidrolon doubles as one of the best new flying mounts in the game. Jetragon also moved house in 1.0, relocating from the volcano to Sunreach as a high-level field alpha (sources disagree on its exact level, we’ve seen both 60 and 70 reported, so expect a serious fight either way).
Beyond the bosses, the islands are stuffed with new catches: Lapure, Lapiron, Dynamoff, Tropicaw, Snock, Solmora, Hoodle, Bakemi, and more. Our full new Pals guide has the complete roster with what each one does.
The Busy Player’s Sunreach Plan
First trip: activate altars, grab the obvious chests, catch an Eidrolon if you can, and knock out two or three defense modules. Second trip: finish the modules and clear Auri and Shaolong. Third trip: come back with the Multicutter and strip Soralite until your Pals complain about the weight. Three evenings, whole region done, and you’re staged for the World Tree with the ore stockpile the endgame benches are about to demand.
