Protect the Seed of Yggdrasil at all Costs! – IGN
Valheim is dope, but it’s only available on PC. For folks in the console world, Tribes of Midgard may be the perfect thing to satisfy your Viking curiosity!
In Tribes of Midgard, collaboration is key. Players share resources and can use their collective loot to upgrade and shop.
Initially, you’re dropped into the center of the map and surrounded by all kinds of threats. It sounds similar to the Overwatch Halloween event where a team of heroes needs to protect the Eichenwalde gate from impending doom.
The art style of Tribes of Midgard is cartoonish with impressive levels of detail. This Viking world has a handful of biomes, with each environment having multiple levels of difficulty. Additionally, the weather and time change throughout the day, just like in the real world.
Tribes of Midgard features special events to increase the difficulty of surviving the elements while improving the replayability of the game. These events will break up the repetition of fighting the more common enemies near your base.
What Sets Tribes of Midgard Apart
Perhaps the most impressive thing about Tribes of Midgard is the fully-developed language derived from Swedish and Icelandic influences! Historically, I’ve really only seen this in major film productions like Star Wars and I’m excited to see how the NPCs take advantage of this new dialect.
You can choose from one of two modes:
- Survival – an open-ended quest where you can control things like the map size and difficulty
- Saga – a shorter mode which is capped off by an overwhelming number of enemies storming your gates
Since Tribes of Midgard is an RPG, we also get a glimpse of the skill tree that your Viking will progress through. The longer you play, the more powerful your character will become!
Tribes of Midgard is slated for a July 27th release, but there’s already a decent amount of early gameplay videos online. You can play on PS4, PS5, and PC (via Steam) to explore your own Norse realm!
