Two Average Gamers: It’s always cool to hear a gamer’s origin story. What got you into gaming?

Nakumah: My grandmother used to take my siblings and me to the laundromat where they had an arcade. Pac-Man was introduced into my life!

TAG: What are your top three games of all time?

Nakumah:

  1. Sonic Adventure 2 (GameCube) . It was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! The story, Super Sonic, Hyper Shadow, 3D animations! Hype!
  2. Powerstone (Dreamcast). It was one of the first fighting games I got really good at.
  3. Super Smash Bro Melee (GameCube). I think it speaks for itself.

TAG: Content creation is a crowded marketplace and it’s very difficult to “make it”. What motivated you to start streaming? What challenges have you faced along the way?

Nakumah: My personality and my friends did. I’ve always enjoyed meeting people and having fun in social settings. Streaming created that space without having to even leave my house!

For me, challenges have just been figuring out the best way to market myself. Streaming is competitive so you need to be unique.

TAG: Where did the name come from?

One of my favorite Characters was Akuma from Street Fighter. When I started growing out my hair, I started to adopt his hairstyle. A fellow streamer noticed my likeness to Akuma and told me I looked like him. He jokingly came up with the nickname Nakumah but I absolutely loved it and went with it.

TAG: How long have you been a streamer? What milestones have you hit so far and what else do you hope to accomplish as a streamer this year?

Nakumah: In 2015, I began streaming on my PlayStation 4. After building my very own gaming computer, I switched over and continue to primarily stream on PC.

This year (2019) I reached Twitch Affiliate status! My goal is to keep growing and eventually become a Twitch Partner.

TAG: Do you focus on any specific games? What game are you playing nowadays?

Nakumah: There are games I play for the love of the game and other games I play to help boost my viewership. While these are games I may not have otherwise played, all the games I play I enjoy.

Currently, Overwatch, The Division 2, and Fortnite are popular games and I try to capitalize on the busy directory. Also, I tend to gravitate toward new releases. It helps keep things fresh.

TAG: What’s your typical streaming schedule?

Nakumah:

Weekdays: 8pm – midnight

Weekends: 10am – 5pm

(All times are EST)

TAG: Why should people come to watch your streams?

Nakumah: I’m pretty sure I’ll start dancing at some point, and people love that lol. Not to mention I like to talk and meet new folks so come on by!

TAG: Tell us about life away from the monitor. What do you do when you’re not streaming?

Nakumah: If I’m not gaming, I’m either dancing or working on computers. I teach dance part-time and work as a full-time technician.

TAG: What advice would you give someone who wants to start streaming?

Nakumah: First and foremost, figure out what type of streamer you want to be and what type of audience you want to attract. Do you want folks to come to your channel for your gameplay? Do you want them to come for your personality? Or some combination of the two?

Remember there are enough people out there for you to find your own support! Be consistent and work for it!

TAG: Thanks for sharing your thoughts with the Average Gamer community! Anything else we should know?

Nakumah: Be YOU! If your first method doesn’t work you can always rebrand and start over. People will notice you if are genuine and you keep working hard!
