You know that feeling when your wallet’s emptier than your kid’s trick-or-treat bag the day after Halloween? Yeah, me too. Well, Best Buy’s got our backs with their Ultimate Upgrade Event. It’s not every day you can snag deals on video games, tech, and even trading cards all in one swoop. This is the kind of sale that makes even the most frugal among us whip out the credit card. Let’s look into everything else happening in our gaming world today, and believe me, there’s plenty to talk about.

Speaking of sequels, Best Buy’s got a deal fest that even your wallet might appreciate. Their Ultimate Upgrade Sale, which kicked off earlier this week, has discounts on everything from prebuilt gaming PCs to trading cards. It’s running through Sunday, April 19, so if you’ve been eyeing that prebuilt gaming rig or a 240Hz monitor, now might be your chance to snag one without maxing out your credit card.

For those of us who still enjoy a good physical game collection, they’re offering rare discounts on some first-party Nintendo games. Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 for the Switch is on sale. Who knows when you’ll see Mario at a discount again? Not to mention, titles like Monster Hunter Wilds for Xbox Series X|S are practically being given away. $12.49? That’s cheaper than a fancy cup of coffee.

If you’re in the market for accessories, the SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro wireless headset is $80 off. It’s not pocket change, but if you’re serious about sound, it’s worth considering. Oh, and don’t forget those amiibo figures. Street Fighter 6’s Luke and Jamie amiibos are heavily discounted, which means more room in the budget for your next gaming splurge.

In short, whether you’re upgrading your battlestation or expanding your game collection, Best Buy’s sale might just have what you didn’t know you needed. Happy hunting, folks. And if you’re looking to share your finds or lament missed deals, hop into our Discord. That’s where we swap war stories and wishlist regrets.

The Call of Duty movie gets a release date, but can it continue the trend of popular video game adaptations?

The Call of Duty movie gets a release date, but can it continue the trend of popular video game adaptations?
Source: Eurogamer

Staying in the live-service world, the Call of Duty franchise is taking yet another shot at mainstream media with a movie set to release on 30th June, 2028. If you’re thinking “Why?”, you’re not alone. The film will be penned by Taylor Sheridan, the brains behind Yellowstone, and directed by Pete Berg of Battleship fame. So, we’ve got some talent onboard, but will it hit the target?

Look, video game movies have been a mixed bag over the years. For every Sonic the Hedgehog triumph, there’s a Mortal Kombat misstep. It’s a coin toss. Kotaku reports that this movie aims to capture the high-octane action of the game series, which sounds great on paper. But considering the last time COD tried to adapt was back in Advanced Warfare’s live-action trailer, the bar is…well, it’s somewhere.

We’re cautiously optimistic, given Sheridan’s stellar track record with gritty storytelling. But it’s Call of Duty, a franchise known for multiplayer chaos rather than narratives. Will it be the next big hit or just more CGI explosions with little substance? Only time will tell. But hey, at least we have five years to brace ourselves for the inevitable headshots and respawns on the big screen.

AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT 8 GB review (Asus Prime)

Over on the PC side, there’s a new graphics card in town that might seem appealing at first glance. The AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT 8 GB from Asus Prime has arrived, and it’s causing a bit of a stir. Why? Because it’s the most budget-friendly option among AMD and Nvidia’s current-gen cards. If you were impressed by the 16 GB version last year, you might be thinking this 8 GB model is a steal. Let’s be honest, though, cutting the VRAM in half isn’t just a small tweak, it can really mess with your gaming experience.

PC Gamer points out that this card is not a one-size-fits-all solution. While it might handle some games with ease, others at higher settings could have you wishing you’d held out for more VRAM. It’s a gamble, honestly. If you’re the kind of gamer who loves pushing settings to the max, the extra bucks spent on a beefier card might save you some future headaches. But if you’re content with striking a balance between price and performance, the 9060 XT 8 GB could be a worthy contender for your next upgrade.

The Mandalorian and Grogu was inspired by The French Connection’s iconic chase scene

In other news, Jon Favreau has revealed that the intense chase scene in The Mandalorian and Grogu took a page from The French Connection’s playbook. Yep, we’re talking about the iconic car chase from William Friedkin’s neo-noir thriller. According to Polygon, Favreau wanted to capture that same level of suspense and intensity. Who knew a galaxy far, far away could draw so much from the gritty streets of 1970s New York? It’s an interesting nod to cinema history and shows just how wide-ranging the influences can be for Favreau and his team. It’s one of those moments that makes you appreciate the creative process behind our favorite shows. We’re all for a little movie magic crossover, especially when it’s done right.

Daredevil Star Charlie Cox Has Finally Played Expedition 33, But He Shouldn’t Have Had To

Over on the PC side, Daredevil himself, Charlie Cox, finally got around to playing Expedition 33. It’s a bit wild that it took this long. Kotaku reports that the star only just now experienced the game. Seriously, if we want top-tier performances from actors in gaming adaptations, maybe we should make it easier for them to get their hands on the source material without a scavenger hunt. After all, Cox’s portrayal is well-loved and part of that magic comes from understanding the material. Seems like a no-brainer for studios to step up their game (pun intended) and ensure actors have access to these experiences early on. Let’s help them help us, right?

Mamdani Uses Mario Kart To Explain New Tax On The Super-Rich

Mamdani Uses Mario Kart To Explain New Tax On The Super-Rich
Source: GameSpot

If you’re a Nintendo person, get ready for a clever crossover. Zohran Mamdani, NYC’s new mayor, just used Mario Kart to explain his latest tax plan on the uber-wealthy. Yeah, you read that right. During an April 16 press briefing, Mamdani likened government efforts to Yoshi speeding around Rainbow Road, with philanthropy playing the role of the golden mushroom. His target? Making NYC affordable for the working class by taxing luxury property owners who don’t actually live there.

Mamdani’s goal is to raise $500 million for public services like free childcare and safer neighborhoods. According to GameSpot, he’s not just pulling gaming metaphors out of thin air; the guy’s a legit fan of FIFA 2003 and SimCity 3000. So, when he compares Bowser to corporate greed, he’s speaking our language. Now, if only we could throw a blue shell at those corporate elites in real life. Curious to hear more? Ghost of Yotei star Erika Ishii says she’d ‘jump’ at the chance to play Atsu again

Source: VGC

Speaking of sequels, wouldn’t it be great to see Erika Ishii reprise her role as Atsu in Ghost of Yotei? She’s all in, saying she’d “jump” at the chance to dive back into that world. Ishii’s performance clearly left a mark, seeing as she’s up for a Performer in a Leading Role at the 2026 BAFTA Games Awards this Friday in London. She’s got some stiff competition, though, with the likes of Troy Baker and Aaron Paul in the mix. VGC caught up with her, and it’s clear she’s got a genuine connection with the character. Honestly, in a world begging for authentic storytelling, it’d be a win for all of us if she got the call for a sequel. Fingers crossed, folks. We’ll just have to see what the future holds.
