Promising Highlights of the Sony Showcase

Sony streamed the last PlayStation Showcase on September 9, 2021. State of Play reveals have replaced the PlayStation showcase for about 2 years, which revealed more multiplatform games rather than Sony exclusives.

Sony brought back the PlayStation showcase to reveal their exclusive plans for the Ps5. Here are some highlighted games that are coming to Sony consoles throughout 2023 and beyond.

2023 Releases for Sony

Tower of Fantasy, made by Perfect World Games, is an adventurous cyberpunk RPG that takes place in the colorful world of Aida. Players will explore vast regions as the Wanderer, the main protagonist that can be customized to any desire.

There are varied playstyles with over 30 weapons available when exploring expanded lands and under the Grand Sea. Players don’t need to investigate such an expansive world alone. There’s a multiplayer mode with other Wanderers. The futuristic world will be open on the PS4 and PS5 later in summer 2023.

Alan Wake 2, made by Remedy Entertainment, is a psychological horror sequel focusing on two protagonists. The first will be Saga Anderson, a veteran FBI agent investigating murder cases in Bright Falls, an area surrounded by the Pacific Northwest wilderness.

After discovering pages of a horror story that’s shaping the world around her, she will meet the second protagonist, Alan Wake. The lost horror writer aimlessly wanders in the Dark Place, hunted by a dreaded horror. He writes a horror story to shapeshift reality to his advantage to escape the predatory hunter.

Players will be able to play both perspectives in any order they desire. Those who haven’t played the previous installments can still enjoy the upcoming sequel without too much confusion. The psychological horror will release on the PS5 on October 17.

Helldivers 2, made by Arrowhead Studios, is a multiplayer coop shooter. This game pairs up to four friends together in an elite military group called Helldivers

Alien threats have endangered the humans’ home planet, Super Earth. Players will use team synergy and a customizable arsenal of powerful weapons to bring peace to their home planet later in 2023.

Final Fantasy 16, exclusively made by Square Enix, is the latest Final Fantasy installment. It takes place in Valisthea, a nation that shelters the resource of magicks, Mothercrystals.

The game will follow Clive Rosfield, a lone swordsman destined to face the Dominants. These enemies have manipulated the power of the Eikons. Players can discover what his destiny holds on the PS5 on June 22.

Immortals of Aveum, made by Ascendant Studios, is a magical shooter that includes battle mages fighting in a catastrophic war. The game focuses on Jak, an Unforseen (a person born without magic, but activates them later) who joined the team of Immortals and gets forced into an endless war called Everwar.

His unique ability to control three magic colors makes him different from other mages. Whoever wins the endless war will gain dominant control over the magic of Aveum. The winner of the Everwar will be decided on PS5 and PC on July 20.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage, created by Ubisoft, is a new installment that takes place in 9th-century Baghdad. Players will play as Basim, learning about his growth as an assassin before Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

The previous AC have been more RPG-based with the level system and ranked weapon loot. In a celebratory form of the 15th anniversary of AC, the game is heavily inspired by its original roots in terms of gameplay, setting, and story.

The devs desire to make the new installment similar to the older ACs, from AC 1 to Black Flag. Players will stealthily explore Baghdad on the PS4, PS5, and PC on October 12.

Sony Future Releases Beyond 2023

Dragon Dogma 2, made by Capcom, is a fantasy adventure game that focuses on the Arisen, one whose heart is taken by the Dragon. The Dragon is rumored to symbolize the world’s destruction, making people either fear or worship him.

Both the player and party members can use different classes to use different weapons and abilities. The epic adventure will start on the PS5 later in the future.

Sony Hardware

Sony unveiled the following hardware that enhances the PS5 experience: the PlayStation earbuds and Project Q. The new PlayStation earbuds are designed with wireless Bluetooth and the PlayStation’s slick design. It will provide lossless audio with low latency, bringing players next-generation audio immersion for the PS5 and PC.

Project Q will allow consumers to play remotely from their PS5. Gamers can play their games through its streaming service, leaving the television free for any family member to use. It’s designed with an 8-inch HD screen encased between the dual sense wireless controller. Wifi, a PS5 console, and video games are required to use the new hardware.

More information about the upcoming hardware will come later in the future.

Metal Gear Solid Revival

Konami is faithfully remaking Metal Gear Solid 3 for modern-day as Metal Gear Solid Δ Snake Eater. The dev team aims to foretell the same origin story of Snake while improving the game’s gameplay with fresh graphics and U.I. experience on modern hardware. The game will release on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Steam. The developers will reveal more details later in the future.

During the remake’s development, Konami is also releasing the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol 1. This remastered collection includes Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2, Metal Gear Solid (including VR and special missions), Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. This is a perfect purchase for fans wanting to prepare for the newly remade MGS Δ Snake Eater on the latest platforms.

The master collection will release in Autumn 2023. More information will appear soon.

Spiderman 2

Spiderman 2 is the long-awaited sequel that will allow both Spidermen, Miles Morales and Peter Parker, to protect their city-wide home. A previous trailer revealed the Spider duo in the streets, facing one of the most dangerous villains, Venom. The new trailer didn’t reveal the villain, though someone similar got introduced instead, Peter’s new black suit.

The recent trailer introduces Kraven the Hunter looking for challenging, satisfying hunts. One of his goons gave him a tablet that revealed a bunch of targets in Manhattan, New York. These include the Prowler, Catwoman, Taskmaster, and both Spidermen. This reveal shows how much work is on the plate for Peter Parker and Miles Morales to protect their home.

Players will finally be able to play as both Miles Morales and Peter Parker in the same game. They will hone different Spider tech and abilities, including Peter’s new aggressive playstyle. There is a switch mechanic, which allows instant control between the two Spidermen wherever they lurk in Manhattan. This provides different perspectives on the overall story.

The whole trailer features Kraven and his goons on the chase for Connors, The Lizard. Peter Parker and Miles Morales swing throughout the East River to stop them from catching their target. There are very few frames of load times when the game seamlessly transitions between the two characters or when they soar at high speeds through New York. Peter and Miles will handle the whole gang of villains exclusively on the PS5 in Autumn 2023.

This year’s PlayStation Showcase was a fine event to reveal a variety of games. The only issue with the showcase was having fewer exclusive reveals. Most games are joining Microsoft and Steam as well, including Metal Gear Solid Δ, Marathon, Alan Wake 2, and several others.

It is worrisome to see Sony exclusives slow down unlike previous Sony consoles. More Sony exclusives will appear once the developers get more accustomed with the new next-gen tech.
