Marvel Rivals Season 5.5 Patch Notes: Every Hero Change Explained

Season 5 was the “everybody gets a buff” patch. That experiment is over. Season 5.5 brings back the nerf hammer alongside some interesting buffs, and a few heroes are getting significant kit changes rather than just number tweaks. Here’s everything changing as we head into 2025, broken down by role with what it actually means for your games. Vanguards Emma Frost (Nerf… Sort Of) The White Queen remains the best Vanguard in the game, but she’s losing some health. Her team-up anchor bonus is gone, which costs her 100 HP. She gets 50 HP back as compensation, so net loss of 50 health. She’s also getting a new team-up ability with Luna Snow that lets you use diamond form offensively (kicking enemies into walls) or defensively (blocking projectiles). Given Luna’s buffs this patch, this pairing might actually become meta. Bottom line: Still probably the best Vanguard. Slightly easier to kill. Penny Parker (Nerf) This actually breaks a streak of almost a full year where Penny got buffed every single patch. She’s been terrorizing low ELO, so they’re finally doing something about it. Health: 750 → 700 Not a massive change, but she’ll be easier to burst down in Gold and Platinum lobbies where she’s been running wild. The Thing (Buff) Ben Grimm keeps getting adjustments as the devs figure out…

FAQ

Did Emma Frost get nerfed in Season 5.5?
Sort of, she's losing 50 HP overall (down 100 from her team-up anchor bonus, but getting 50 back as compensation), which makes her slightly easier to burst down. She's still the best Vanguard though, and her new team-up with Luna Snow that lets her use diamond form offensively or defensively could actually make that pairing meta.
What's the biggest change to Ultron in this patch?
Ultron can now deploy TWO drones instead of one, so you can support two allies at once, even a flanker and your main group simultaneously. This is huge for a hero that's been bottom tier forever, and combined with Firewall now granting 20% movement speed and 10% damage boost, he might finally be viable.
Why did Psylocke get nerfed so hard?
Her Dance of the Butterfly ultimate charge time increased by 21%, which is significant since her ult was nuking entire teams too easily. She also lost her team-up with Emma Frost, which hurts given how often Emma gets picked, though she gains a new team-up with Cloak Dagger as compensation.
Is Human Torch getting buffed or nerfed?
Mixed, he's getting pushed toward an aggressive, up-close playstyle with better close-range damage (Fire Cluster and Blazing Blast buffs) but worse at range with adjusted fall-off. If you play him like a shotgun character, you'll love it; if you poke from distance, you'll feel the nerf.
Which heroes are the biggest winners in Season 5.5?
Ultron (finally playable with dual drones), Luna Snow (self-buff is strong), Loki (clones at 90% damage/healing ratio), Thor (mid-dash direction changes), and Phoenix (25% more health on her ultimate form). The meta probably won't shift dramatically, but these heroes should see more play.
