Lies of P Overture Preview

Lies of P Overture finally has a release window! At the most recent PlayStation State of Play Stream, a trailer premiered, showing P in a Krat before the puppet frenzy plagued the city.

According to Director Jiwon Choi, Lies of P Overture is a developer’s cut of the base game. This DLC promises to answer questions players of the base game may have about the origins of the Puppet Frenzy. It also promises to add lore to the characters players have come to know through side quests, flyers, and the main story. Spoilers for those who haven’t completed the game and all the side quests ahead. If you haven’t played the game and don’t know where to start, check out these tips.

New Weapons

In the base game, players could only use bladed weapons such as greatswords, rapiers, daggers, and lances. The trailer shows off a lot of new weapons. P used new greatswords and a backhand blade throughout the trailer. However, what grabbed my attention was the addition of new weapon types.

In the base game, ranged combat was never an option unless you threw consumables at enemies while the specter kept the boss distracted. In the trailer, P fights against a corrupted whale using a golden bow to shoot it down. While I’m not someone who enjoys ranged combat in Soulslikes, I love that the devs added a ranged weapon to mix it up.

In another part of the trailer, P used wolverine claws to take down an enemy in a barrage of swipes. I’m excited to try this weapon out because I’m sure that we cannot use our legion arm when we have a weapon in each hand. While I’ll miss using the Puppet String Legion Arm, I cannot wait to claw through enemies.

Legion Arms

From the trailer, I noticed two new Legion Arms. For most of the trailer, P walks around with a white Legion Arm that looks like porcelain. Upon further inspection, it resembles a cathedral with a double-barrel shotgun on the forearm.

The second Legion Arm is a green arm with gold adornments. It has a curved blade on the forearm. I have no clue as to what this arm can do, but in the trailer, it is paired with the new bow. My best guess is that this Legion Arm is melee-based.

Lore

Lies of P Overture is set in a time before the puppet frenzy plagued Krat. Throughout the trailer, we see creatures afflicted with the Puppet Frenzy, but it hasn’t spread through the masses. While it is unlikely we will stop it, we will learn about how it spread and who was truly responsible for this chaos.

In the trailer, we catch a glimpse of the Legendary Stalker with a familiar lantern clipped to her belt. We only saw references to her when we reached the final level of the game as P walked through Carlo’s memories on the beach.

During a fight, P blows a horn, and Alidoro bursts through a window. However, we know that the Alidoro we meet in the base game is not the same Alidoro we see in this DLC. Are we going on an adventure with the dead brother of our weapons expert Eugénie?

My Hype

I am excited to sink my teeth into Lies of P Overture. Since I played the first game, I’ve been trying to come up with a theory as to why the Puppet Frenzy was let loose and how Gepetto and Manus are connected to it. I can’t wait to finally get some answers while trying out the new weapons against the new bosses.

While there’s no definite date just yet, I have one reason to like Summer with its Summer 2025 release window.
