Last Week in Gaming – September 24, 2019

Welcome to TAG Roundup!

Ever wonder what you missed in the world of gaming last week? No worries – we’ve got you covered!

We read a ton of video game articles each week and wanted to share some of our favorites with the Average Gamer community. We’ll feature everything from previews to reviews and everything in between.

The articles we share will be from a combination of well-known sources (like IGN) and more niche blogs that you may not have heard of. In the previous TAG Roundup post, we talked about Ring Fit Adventure, Moon re-release, Gears 5 and more!

Here we go!

Free Rockstar Game – Gamespot

Rockstar Games is a juggernaut in the industry. From Max Payne to Red Dead Redemption, Rockstar is renowned for their incredible commitment to releasing compelling game series.

With their recently released PC Launcher, you can now get GTA: San Andreas for free! This is great news for anyone who owns a computer and you should jump on this immediately. Here are some of the features of the new PC Launcher:

  • Cloud saves
  • Automatic game updates
  • Support for disc-based and digital games

SNES Controller for Switch – The Verge

If you haven’t picked up your free Nintendo Switch online subscription, please go do that immediately (you’ll need an Amazon prime account).

Of course, you’ll want to also purchase a controller which matches your new retro gaming library. What better addition to your wealth of accessories than a gamepad from the 90s??

It’s not hard to see the appeal if you really want the full experience of playing the original Super Mario Kart game in its 16-bit glory. The article also mentions a few alternatives if you don’t mind spending more for extra features: $45 8Bitdo SF30 Pro / SN30 Pro, a modernized take on the SNES controller.

So Much Death Stranding – IGN

Who really knows what to expect from Hideo Kojima’s next game? Amidst the rumors, trailers and and fan requests, we are left with a modest understanding of the game.

Our friends at IGN compiled 105 details that help flesh out what you’ll do and see in Death Stranding. The screenshots of the inventory screen remind me of The Division but I’m sure there are nuances that will set this apart from any game before it.

Expect to see more DS news as we near closer to the November 9 release date.

Retro Stick From NEO GEO – Endgadget

Button-mashing in an arcade is always a good time, especially when you can get a group of friends together. Long ago, developers realized that gamers want to replicate this experience in their living rooms. Enter the arcade stick.

NEO GEO is taking it up a notch by loading their gamepad with some of your favorite arcade games from the developer:

  • THE KING OF FIGHTERS ’97

Fortnite + Batman – Endgadget

Epic isn’t slowing down anytime soon with their hit battle royale game. Their most recent announcement brings the dark knight into the fray. They’ve added Gotham City to the game and you can soar through the air with your black cape accessory.

The grapnel gun sounds very similar to the grappling hook so I’m curious to see if the community calls Epic out on this. Alternatively, the batarang is unique and will definitely yield some hilarious highlight clips as people set of the proximity mine.

Flash has said this might pull him out of Fortnite retirement, so maybe there are TAG clips on the horizon!

Apex Ranked Summary – Dexerto

If you’re like me, you played the rank queue of Apex Legends for the first couple of weeks and then got sad about losing points in higher tiers. For the ones that toughed it out, maybe you are part of the 0.2% of the player base who made it to Apex Predator rank!

Respawn Entertainment showed us what’s coming in Series 2 as well as a distribution of how many players ended up each in each tier. With Series 1 coming to a close, you only have a little bit of time to continue to move up the ranks. Check out these tips to help gain RP in Kings Canyon.

Modern Warfare Ground War – Forbes

We’ve got 32v32 action in Call of Duty’s latest beta. The game is coming out on October 25th and Infinity Ward has kept it’s community plenty busy with it’s open betas over the last couple of months.

Interestingly, there is cross-platform in the betas! Console players can play simultaneously with PC people and I’m hopeful that this will convince future developers to be more open to cross-platform action.

The early reaction from the CoD fanbase has been positive and the game seems to be on an upward trend leading into October.
