Last Week in Gaming – February 11, 2020

Welcome to TAG Roundup!

Ever wonder what you missed in the world of gaming last week? No worries – we’ve got you covered!

We read a ton of video game articles each week and wanted to share some of our favorites with the Average Gamer community. We’ll feature everything from previews to reviews and everything in between.

The articles we share will be from a combination of well-known sources (like IGN) and more niche blogs that you may not have heard of. In the previous TAG Roundup post, we talked about Pokemon Home, Virtual Boy, the PS5 physics engine and more!

Here we go!

More from Xbox Game Pass – Xbox News

If you haven’t already taken advantage of the $1 3-month Xbox Game Pass subscription, go do that immediately. It’s got a ton of games in the library, many of which are award-winning titles.

This month, we’re getting three huge games to add to your backlog:

The pass pays for itself if you even play one game, so treat yourself to another subscription plan while there’s still time!

Red Dead Online Free Items – Gamespot

Red Dead Redemption 2 has a rich story, loads of side quests and a constantly-evolving online mode. Rockstar is known for building a strong online community (see GTA V’s ongoing success) and has shown the same level of dedication to the Red Dead sequel.

Through February 10th, you can get some free items, including a Bounty Hunter license, tracking arrows and bolas. Since the freebies ended yesterday, I also posted on Twitter to let the gaming community know. Make sure to follow us on Twitter for more real-time updates!

New Halo Mode – Gamespot

Freeze tag was fun as a kid, and apparently the folks at 343 Industries want to incorporate the game into Halo. As part of their Winter Contingency event, which runs until February 18, you can jump into a game of freeze tag with your master chief friends!

As expected, you can win by freezing enemy players. There’s also a flag that can be captured and returned to your base for the victory.

The gameplay looks pretty hectic but is a nice change of pace from the typical team deathmatch.

Fire Emblem Heroes Pass – Nintendo Life

If you own Fire Emblem Heroes on your phone, you can now purchase the FeH Pass for $9.49. This will give you access to two heroes and four perks each month.

It seems more free-to-play games are shifting towards this battle pass-type add-on, but the pricetag here seems a little steep for a mobile game. Check out the full article for more FeH Pass details and the latest updates to the game.

Websites for Gamers – Thumbsticks

This article lists 10 websites that gamers should add to their bookmarks. I can personally vouch for HowLongToBeat and Gamefaqs but haven’t spent too much time on the rest.

The Video Game Atlas looks really neat, and I can see it being especially helpful for older games. Are there any other gaming sites that you visit regularly that should be added to the list?

7th Sector Review – Forbes

7th Sector sounds like a dark puzzler with Limbo influence. The controls are extraordinarily simple but the puzzles seem challenging and, at times, thought-provoking based on the surroundings.

If you’ve played through Super Meat Boy or Give up, Robot, you’ll feel fairly comfortable with the ‘try over and over’ aspect of some of the levels. 7th Sector’s 2.5D, cyberpunk graphics look great and the audio is fitting for the genre.

For people who like puzzles, math, strategy, and stealth, you may want to try out this indie title.

PS4 Dungeon Crawling – Polygon

Below feels like the brainchild of Stranger Things and Diablo. This dungeon crawler has been available on Steam and Xbox One since late 2018 and is now making its way to PS4!

Your warrior character trecks through procedurally generated spaces followed by “quick deaths”. Along with the PS4 release, the game is also getting a new mode which “is optimized to encourage exploration”.

It sounds like the devs are toning down the difficulty to attract new players, which is a good move for a re-release on Sony’s console.

Kingdom Hearts PS4 Box Set – Gamespot

The Kingdom hearts series is equal parts brilliant story-telling and exciting fighting mechanics. KH3 came out last year and was met with mostly positive reviews.

On March 17, you can have your very own box set for the PS4, which includes 10 magical experiences! Your getting hundreds of hours of content for 50 bucks, so this is a no-brainer for anyone who is a fan of the series.
