Imagine the Next PlayStation Portable | Tag Roundup #124

Welcome to TAG Roundup, Featuring PlayStation Portable!

The Nintendo Switch has a stranglehold on the mobile gaming market, and for good reason. However, it’s missing some features that could put it in the elite category of next-gen systems. Luckily, some creative people made some fascinating mockups of what a PS5-like PlayStation Portable could look like!

PlayStation Portable with a PS5 Touch – Yanko Design

How many of you remember the PlayStation Portable, AKA the PSP? It was ahead of its time but didn’t get the attention it deserved.

We had a sharp screen, a reasonably-sized joystick, a touchscreen, an incredible library of games, and a surprisingly decent battery life. It’s strange to think that the small powerhouse launched almost two decades ago!

Sony has released upgrades to the portable console, but they never did a full refresh. The console was discontinued in 2014 and the Nintendo Switch has dominated the market since then.

It’s a good thing the gaming community is full of creative geniuses! Designers Andrea Gallarini and Nicola Pezzotti came up with a sleek design that does justice to the original PSP while adding modern features.

To start, we’ve got an update to the controller inputs. The new-look PlayStation Portable has dual joysticks that are closer in size to a PS5 controller. Additionally, it sports two shoulder buttons on either side of the console. These upgrades bring the revamped console to the forefront of handheld gaming!

Next, we take a look at the form factor. It looks very similar to the new OLED Nintendo Switch, but with a slimmer section in the middle of the console. The docking system is chic and the overall look compliments the PS5 console.

Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of this hypothetical console is the ability to interact directly with a PS5. This could happen via remote play in the same way that the OG PSP connected with the PS3

A New PlayStation Portable could be an even better controller than the DualSense controller for certain games. It also gives you the option to use a stencil on the touch screen for more precise control of on-screen actions.

There are about 20 images of the concept art so definitely check out the full article for more inspiration!
