Last updated: January 25, 2025
The internet is drowning in GTA 6 rumors. Fake leaks. Speculation passed off as news. YouTubers stretching thirty seconds of information into twenty-minute videos.
This isn’t that.
Below is everything Rockstar has actually confirmed about Grand Theft Auto VI. No speculation. No “sources say.” Just verified information from official announcements, trailers, and the Rockstar website. I’ll update this page weekly as new information drops.
Release Date
Confirmed: November 19, 2026
The game has been delayed twice. Here’s the timeline:
- December 2023: First trailer announces Fall 2025 release window
- May 2, 2025: Rockstar delays to May 26, 2026
- November 6, 2025: Rockstar delays again to November 19, 2026
In their most recent announcement, Rockstar stated: “We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve.”
The November 2025 delay came alongside the firing of 34 employees at Rockstar North and Rockstar Toronto, which the company attributed to public discussion of confidential information. The IWGB union disputed this characterization.
Platforms
Confirmed: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S
That’s it. No PS4. No Xbox One. No PC at launch.
Take-Two’s official press release only mentions current-gen consoles. Given Rockstar’s history (GTA V took two years to reach PC, Red Dead Redemption 2 took one year), a PC version will likely arrive in 2027 or 2028. But nothing is confirmed.
The game will run on base PS5 and Xbox Series X. Whether there will be PS5 Pro enhancements hasn’t been announced. Digital Foundry’s Richard Leadbetter has suggested the game likely won’t hit 60fps even on PS5 Pro due to CPU limitations, but this is speculation, not confirmation.
Setting
Confirmed: The State of Leonida
Leonida is Rockstar’s fictional version of Florida. Vice City returns as the main metropolitan area, but the map extends far beyond the city limits.
Confirmed regions from official screenshots and trailers:
- Vice City: The neon-lit Miami-inspired metropolis. Updated for the 2020s with modern architecture alongside classic Vice City landmarks.
- Grassrivers: A vast swampland inspired by the Everglades. Expect alligators.
- Leonida Keys: The Florida Keys equivalent. Beaches, boats, and presumably some shady dealings.
- Mount Kalaga National Park: Mountainous and wooded terrain contrasting with the lowland swamps.
- Port Gellhorn: A former tourist hotspot that’s fallen on hard times. Cheap motels, strip clubs, and faded glory.
- Ambrosia: A working-class community north of Vice City, controlled by a biker gang.
Rockstar has described this as “the biggest, most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series yet.”
Characters
Confirmed protagonists: Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos
This is the first mainline GTA game with a female playable protagonist. Jason and Lucia operate as a criminal duo with a romantic relationship. Think Bonnie and Clyde in modern Florida.
Lucia Caminos
From the official Rockstar website:
“Lucia’s father taught her to fight as soon as she could walk. Fighting for her family put Lucia in the Leonida Penitentiary. Sheer luck got her out. Lucia’s learned her lesson – only smart moves from here. More than anything, Lucia wants the good life her mom has dreamed of since their days in Liberty City – but instead of half-baked fantasies, Lucia is prepared to take matters into her own hands.”
Lucia grew up in Liberty City (Rockstar’s New York) before ending up in Florida. The second trailer shows her being released from prison, doing community service, and reuniting with Jason.
Jason Duval
From the official Rockstar website:
“Jason joined the Army to shake off his troubled teens. After that he slid into what he knows best, working for local drug runners. Jason dreams of aiming higher – a proper job, a real home, something new. Meeting Lucia could be the best or worst thing to ever happen to him.”
Jason is ex-military, currently working in the drug trade, and looking for a way out. The trailers show him in both criminal activities and moments of domestic normalcy with Lucia.
Supporting Characters
Rockstar has confirmed several supporting characters:
- Cal Hampton: Jason’s friend. Conspiracy theorist. Listens to Coast Guard radio frequencies.
- Boobie Ike: Described as a “Vice City legend.” Real estate and strip club mogul moving into the music industry.
- Dre’Quan Priest: Gangster and music producer connected to Boobie Ike.
- Real Dimez (Bae-Luxe and Roxy): Rappers and viral video creators.
- Raul Bautista: An experienced bank robber.
- Brian Heder: A local drug smuggling boss.
An unnamed police officer appears in the second trailer making what look like corrupt backroom deals. He’s a likely antagonist, though Rockstar hasn’t confirmed this.
Story
Confirmed plot description from Rockstar:
“Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them. But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida, forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive.”
The trailers suggest a rags-to-riches arc. Jason and Lucia start in a small apartment after her release from prison. Lucia works a legitimate job (shown in a high-visibility vest doing community service). They turn to crime and escalate from there.
The relationship between Jason and Lucia appears central to the narrative. The second trailer shows tender moments alongside the usual GTA chaos. Holding hands. Cuddling on the couch. Dancing together. It’s a departure from the series’ typically cynical portrayal of relationships.
Trailers
Trailer 1: Released December 4, 2023
The first trailer broke records for most-viewed non-music video in 24 hours on YouTube (93 million views). It focused on establishing Vice City and Leonida, with brief glimpses of Lucia. Jason appeared for less than ten seconds.
The trailer featured Tom Petty’s “Love Is a Long Road,” which saw a 37,000% increase in Spotify streams afterward.
Trailer 2: Released May 6, 2025
The second trailer runs nearly three minutes and focuses on Jason and Lucia’s relationship. Set to “Hot Together” by The Pointer Sisters, it shows their criminal partnership from small-time robberies to armed car chases.
The trailer was captured on PlayStation 5, according to the fine print. Both trailers are available on Rockstar’s official YouTube channel.
Price
Not officially confirmed.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has said the price will be “fair” without committing to a specific number. The standard expectation is $70, matching current AAA pricing. Special editions will likely cost more.
Some industry analysts have speculated about an $80-100 price tag, but Zelnick has not confirmed this. When asked directly, he noted that Take-Two has “had variable pricing forever” with special editions priced higher.
Pre-orders have not opened. Some international retailers have jumped the gun with placeholder listings, but official pre-orders from Rockstar have not begun.
