Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves Review

Source: Eurogamer – April 21, 2025

The much-anticipated sequel to one of the gaming world’s most cherished classics, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, commands our attention, yet it is marred by an unavoidable flaw. Over two decades ago, SNK captivated the gaming community with Garou: Mark of the Wolves. Since then, Fatal Fury has transformed into a nostalgic symbol, primarily cherished by those who harbor an appreciation for classic games. The once dormant flame of Fatal Fury now blazes anew with City of the Wolves, an impressive revival that has seen more funding than the latest high-risk AI start-up. However, does City of the Wolves have the potential to carve out its niche in a market dominated by heavyweights like Street Fighter and Tekken?

As one of the highly anticipated titles slated for the debut of the Nintendo Switch 2, Cyberpunk 2077 by CD Projekt RED has been previewed through work-in-progress code during the console’s launch tour. Digital Foundry had an opportunity for a hands-on experience at a recent London event. While our initial reactions were documented, several inquiries were left unresolved. Was the port employing Nvidia DLSS? CD Projekt RED has since confirmed that, indeed, it does. This distinction marks it as the inaugural title known to utilize this machine-learning-based upscaling technology. “We’re deploying a version of DLSS optimized for Nintendo Switch 2 hardware, driven by Nvidia’s Tensor cores,” the company informed us.

Palworld Legal Team Claims Titanfall 2, Ark, and The Legend of Zelda Invalidate Nintendo’s Patents

Source: Eurogamer – April 20, 2025

In response to Nintendo’s legal action, Pocketpair, the developer of Palworld, has disputed the validity of the patents that The Pokémon Company alleges they have infringed upon. The developer argues that these patents are invalidated by the prior existence of similar mechanisms and art in other games, such as Ark: Survival Evolved, Tomb Raider, and even Nintendo’s own Legend of Zelda series. This development was reported by Games Fray, and thanks to VGC for the information. Nintendo’s patent applications were reportedly filed between February and July 2024, several weeks and months after the launch of the monster-collecting game in January of the same year. Pocketpair’s legal team contends through preliminary briefings that the patents Nintendo claims should not have been granted, given that the systems and art they protect were already in use in existing games.

Lost Skies: A Skyfaring Survival Sandbox Game, Launches into Early Access

Source: PC Gamer – April 21, 2025

Second chances often provide games the opportunity to correct past mistakes and reintroduce themselves in a more appealing light. Few games are more deserving of such an opportunity than Worlds Adrift, the ill-fated sky-pirate MMO from Bossa Studios. Despite featuring impressive physics, grappling hooks, and wingsuits, the game’s heavy PvP focus was a turn-off for many players. In response, Bossa Studios shut down the servers.

Now, Lost Skies, a smaller-scale PvE-centric reboot of the game, has launched into early access on Steam. Much of the original game’s appeal remains, including the highly customizable airships. However, this time around, the players are united in their fight against invading aliens and robots, rather than each other.

The name Okuplok sends shivers down the spines of classic Doom enthusiasts. Source: PC Gamer – April 21, 2025

Fans eagerly refreshing Bethesda’s YouTube channel for an ‘Oblivion Remastered’ trailer were taken by surprise when a new trailer for ‘Doom: The Dark Ages’ was unexpectedly released over the Easter weekend. The trailer kicks off with a narrative-heavy introduction. A menacing character, bearing a striking resemblance to a figure from ‘Hellraiser,’ threatens a fragmented humanity with a battleship seemingly inspired by Warhammer 40,000’s Imperium of Man, and a horde of demons. Admittedly, I’m not entirely up-to-date with the lore of the Doom series.
