Welcome to TAG Roundup, Featuring Elements!
Few games have down open-world action like Breath of the Wild. Elements looks to capture the essence of everyone’s favorite Zelda game in a magic-filled adventure!
If you want even more gaming news, check out our entire TAG Roundup series! The last post gave a first look at the Civilization-esque title, Humankind.
Elements Dares you to Control Magic – Nintendo Life
As meta as this sounds, the voice of Princess Zelda will also be the voice of Elements’ protagonist, Nyah. If this doesn’t scream Zelda spinoff, let me also point out the visual of a sword in the stone within the first 20 seconds of the announcement trailer!
While Elements shares many ties to Breath of the Wild, it seeks to stand on its own feet in the crowded space of action-RPG games. Where BotW leaned heavily on abilities gained from battling divine beasts, Elements goes the more explicit magic route.
In Elements, you’ll uncover the power of 8 elemental stones, each of which will give your character new abilities. The trailer shows common magic-types like fire and ice, but it’s unclear whether you’ll be able to combine different elements a la Magicka.
Quick sidebar: Nyah is clearly fighting on Overwatch’s Temple of Anubis map at 1:07 of the trailer. Looks like she is defending the point from a Reaper bot.
Another thing that sets Elements apart from its Zelda inspiration is an equipment crafting mechanic. This solves one of the major complaints of BotW where you would constantly be cycling through equipment after it breaks.
As expected, you can build your own home in the world of Elemythia. This is par for the course when it comes to these types of adventure games.
The announcement trailer shows off a variety of enemies across different biomes. We also get a glimpse into the combat mechanics, highlighting melee attacks, ranged weapons, and dodging. As a final tie-in to Breath of the Wild, Nyah can soar from great heights using a familiar glider.
Elements is slated for a 2023 launch across console and PC. You can add it to your wishlist on Steam and stay tuned to Roundup for more updates on this exciting open-world RPG title!
