E3 is Here!
Another year, another Electronic Entertainment Expo. This is the week where gamers are overloaded with industry news. The show hours run from June 11-13 but there have already been leaks in the several days leading up to the official kickoff in the LA Convention Center. You can catch a live view of the announcements here.
Last year around this time, we were pumped about Super Smash, Overcooked 2 and Pokemon Let’s Go, among others. Now we’ve got a bunch more titles that we’re excited about over the coming months. Here’s a roundup of what we are most looking forward to.
Apex Legends
If you couldn’t tell, we’re still obsessed with Apex Legends. Season 1 came to a close on June 4th and we’re anxiously awaiting the arrival of Season 2.
Respawn is set to make their announcements on Tuesday, June 11th at 5:00 PM. The newest legend, Wattson, was already introduced but there will likely be additional previews on what the developers expect to add to the game.
Head over to EA for a full recap of the most recent update. Some of the highlights include a new LMG and the new Apex Elite queue. We’ve dropped in to Elite queues already and have mostly gone up against some tougher competition.
With growing concern that Apex Legends is losing their player base, expect some captivating story retelling from the team at Respawn on Tuesday.
Marvel’s The Avengers Project
Avengers: Endgame broke box office records in a culmination of years of fast-paced action and compelling character development. Now, Square Enix is bringing a new Avengers game to the table. There aren’t too many details out regarding what the new game will include but we did at least see Ironman, Thor, Captain America and Hulk. We’re hoping for hack-and-slash gameplay mixed with deep character customization.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8R28wqgc8M
Borderlands 3
Yoshyaes has played through the first two entrants in this series and really enjoyed them. The dialogue is hilarious, the skill tree for each character was solid and the enemy monster AI made for some epic battles. In the third iteration of the franchise, we get new hunters, new weapons, new enemies and new vehicles. The graphics got a major overhaul but keep the original cartoon appeal.
Borderlands multiplayer has always been fantastic. We’re looking forward to some splitscreen mayhem on September 13.
Cyberpunk 2077
Cyberpunk looks like an extraordinarily ambitious game. The sandbox thriller has branching storylines where the player can manipulate most of the environmental electronics.
Last week, we found out that Keanu Reeves will be featured in the game. This makes sense given the likeness to the Matrix series.
A release date of April 16, 2020 has been set. CD Projeckt Red has built up the hype for this game since the January 2013 teaser. Here’s hoping that the developers don’t disappoint and that the game lives up to its potential.
Final Fantasy VII Remake
Please…please just release this game! We’ve been waiting almost half a decade for this remake and have little to show for it. For reference, since the first announcement was made we’ve had re-releases of FF IX, FF X and FF XII. To be fair, FF 7 was ported over to Nintendo Switch and Xbox One earlier this year. But we don’t want a port of the original, we want an enhanced version with the real-time battles and altered story line that has been promised for years. Maybe this will be the year we hear a release date, but we aren’t holding our breath.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Df0YG3qfZ8E
Pokemon Sword and Shield
Even though we haven’t finished the last Pokemon game, we’re still curious about what Niantic has in store for Sword and Shield. You can pre-order for the November 15 release date. This is easily the best looking Pokemon game yet. Battle animations have been updated and, for some reason, Pokemon are giant…sometimes. Additionally, the titular pokemon actually have a sword and shield. How cool is that?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uBYORdr_TY8
Nintendo Direct
Earlier this year, we covered several Nintendo Direct announcements. On June 11th at 11 AM, we’ll hear more from the folks at Nintendo on what’s to come. We know that a new Nintendo Switch is on the way and we’ll likely hear more news about it this Tuesday. There have been some pretty cool concept art for the new console so we hope Nintendo is taking note.

A Big Week Ahead
We’re bound to see plenty of surprises and probably a few disappointments over the next 72 hours. It’s a great time to be a gamers and we’re looking forward to doing a recap of the announcements later.
