Climb the Ranks: Best Heroes in Overwatch 2 Season 7

Season 7 of Overwatch 2

Overwatch 2 launched Season 7 on Tuesday, October 10, 2023. The big news this season was a rework for everyone’s favorite hacker, Sombra. Her kit changed significantly, and the community is actively trying to figure out her new playstyle.

There were a few minor changes to the rest of the hero pool, but nothing too drastic. We’ll need to wait to see how real the rumors are about a mid-season Roadhog rework that could shake up the meta.

In Season 7, we see many strong picks from the previous season. If you want to climb the competitive ladder this season, use any of these meta picks!

Best DPS in Season 7 of Overwatch 2

DPS are in a bit of a weird spot, given the strength of Supports in Overwatch 2. They can still rack up kills, but you need to be more mindful in taking duels with enemies this season.

Overwatch 2 Bastion

Bastion

Bastion’s pick rate has skyrocketed over the last couple of months. You can deal crazy amounts of damage while having good survivability for a DPS. the Ironclad passive gives Bastion a 20% reduction in damage while in Assault configuration.

Being effective with Bastion mostly comes down to playing around his turret form. Play aggressively as a turret and quickly melt any opponents who fail to get behind cover.

His ultimate ability is great for pushing enemies off an objective or securing a quick kill on an enemy squishy. Make sure to use it from behind cover and keep in mind that it can be blocked by barriers and defensive abilities.

Overwatch 2 Hanzo

Hanzo

This is the most forgiving sniper in the game. Hanzo’s arrows have no damage drop-off, meaning you can spam them across the map and secure a headshot kill on a 200-health enemy.

Hanzo also has great mobility, able to climb walls and dash to reposition himself. His combination of movement and kill potential makes him a strong pick in Season 7.

Hanzo’s ultimate is one of the best in the gaming for zoning an area. Fire it at choke points to pick up easy kills or use it to force the opposing team to move from a specific area of the map. If you’re feeling really ambitious, combine it with a Grav, Earthershatter, or Freeze for maximum impact!

Best Tanks in Season 7 of Overwatch 2

Being a Tank in this game is about making and taking space. The Tank selection in this season of Overwatch 2 revolves around 2 heroes who have the ability to stay in fights for an extended period.

Orisa remains a strong pick in Season 7

Orissa

Orissa is the unparalleled winner in this meta. Even with the recent nerf to her Fortify ability, she still has many tools to make a significant impact on any team fight.

Her primary fire is most devastating at close range. Try to use her Javelin Spin to close the distance between you and the enemies. Also, practice with her Energy Javelin in the practice range to increase your chances of landing this powerful ability in matches.

As with most heroes, you want to efficiently cycle through her abilities to get the most out of her kit. Additionally, effective players will use her Javelin Spin to protect her allies whenever an opportunity presents itself.

Overwatch 2 Sigma

Sigma

Sigma likes to play at a very specific range given the maximum distance of his Hyperspheres. Once you learn to play within this distance from your enemies, he can deal an insane amount of damage while consistently applying pressure to the enemy team.

Since he lacks mobility, you want to generally play close enough to your team to have some backup. Use his Projectile Barrier to block enemy abilities like Soldier’s rockets, Roadhog’s hook, and Ashe’s dynamite. Don’t be the Sigma who just leaves his shield out there to absorb random spam damage!

Sigma’s ult puts him in a vulnerable position, so make sure you have some cover to avoid being eliminated before Gravitic Flux slams your opponents. Lastly, throw a few Hyperspheres at any enemy who has more than half their HP prior to the Flux suspension.

Best Supports in Season 7 of Overwatch 2

Supports remain dominant in Overwatch 2, with queue times getting longer and longer in the last couple of months. They have some of the only crowd control abilities in the game, can do solid damage, and have the potential to keep their team alive through opposing Ultimate abilities!

Ana

The key to being a good Ana player is applying offensive pressure on the enemy team. This is achieved by landing Biotic Grenades to negate enemy healing, removing opponents from the fight with her Sleep Dart, or dealing direct damage with her biotic Rifle. Used properly, this trio gives Ana the ability to carry her games.

Additionally, her healing output is some of the highest in the game. Use the nade on critical teammates to quickly return them to full health.

Ana’s ult can be used either offensively or defensively:

  • Give Nano to someone on your team who is at risk of dying in a critical moment of a team feat OR
  • Give Nano to a teammate to increase their kill threat potential (think about comboing with other hero’s ultimates like Soldier, Genji, or Reinhardt)
Illari entered the scene in Season 6

Illari

In Season 6, Blizzard brought the latest hero to the mix. Illari has incredible damage potential, especially for a Support hero, and rewards players with good mechanical skills.

Most of your healing will come from the Pylon, so the slight nerf to her Solar Rifle beam didn’t knock her from the S Tier of this meta. Place the Pylon in a position that is safe from incoming enemy damage while within your team’s healing reach.

Captive Sun remains one of the most devastating offensive ultimates in the game. Prioritize hitting at least one squishy enemy, and then deal damage to that target to cause an explosion after 0.8 seconds.

Illari is a great option for DPS mains who want to ease into the support role!

Season 7 Meta

Heroes are just one component of a winning formula. If you want to improve, you’ll need to work on your comms and develop good game sense.

To recap, these are the strongest heroes to climb the ranked ladder in Overwatch 2 Season 7:

  • DPS – Bastion + Hanzo
