New Exciting Demo Released for ‘Unbeatable’, the Rhythm Game Where Music is Illegal
Source: Rock Paper Shotgun – April 17, 2025
Unbeatable provides an unusual twist to rhythm games – music is illegal, and playing it is a crime. This enticing hook makes it stand out among other games in its genre. Despite waiting for its full release since the Kickstarter campaign about four years ago, the game isn’t complete yet. However, the developers have released the next big thing: a new demo. You might wonder, “Didn’t Unbeatable already have a demo?” Indeed, it had a few, but this latest one is the first ‘proper’ demo, offering a vertical slice of the game for players to dive into.

Nintendo’s Mario Kart World Direct Announcements, Including the Hidden Rainbow Road
Source: Eurogamer – April 17, 2025
Nintendo didn’t explicitly confirm but strongly indicated that the iconic Rainbow Road will be present in the forthcoming Mario Kart World, set to be released this summer. However, Rainbow Road won’t be immediately accessible to players. Instead, they’ll need to triumph over all the Grand Prix cups. As Nintendo hinted, “rumour has it a certain colourful course will appear”. Undoubtedly, this is a reference to Rainbow Road, as suggested by a colourful beam leading up to the sky shown during Nintendo’s Mario Kart World Direct presentation this afternoon. Two Armored Core Games from 2000s Japan Set for Exciting PC Release
Source: Rock Paper Shotgun – April 17, 2025
Armored Core, a FromSoftware series that has held a steady fanbase since its PS1 debut, has been largely inaccessible to PC players until the recent release of Armored Core 6. However, this is set to change as two more games from the series are making their way to the PC platform. The only catch is that these games will not have an English-language release, so proficiency in Japanese would be beneficial for the full experience. This is because the games were initially designed for the advanced mobile phones of early 2000s Japan, which were equipped with features such as built-in cameras, internet access, GPS, and even games.

Roblox Faces Lawsuit for Allegedly Selling Charli XCX Dance Without Authorization
Source: Eurogamer – April 17, 2025
During the height of Fortnite’s popularity, Alfonso Ribeiro, known as Carlton from The Fresh Prince, attempted to sue Epic Games for using his dance in the game. Interestingly, the Carlton dance was also purchasable in Destiny, another popular game. However, Fortnite was the bigger target due to its immense global popularity at that time. Despite several attempts, Ribeiro and others who pursued similar lawsuits were unsuccessful. Whether motivated by the negative publicity or potential legal repercussions, Fortnite swiftly rectified its actions. Today, the game features numerous dance emotes, music tracks, and other elements, all obtained legally and transparently.

Mandragora: A Witch-Hunting Fantasy Action-RPG Gem Now Available
Source: Rock Paper Shotgun – April 17, 2025
Back in January, I raised concerns while discussing Mandragora: Whispers Of The Witch Tree. I wondered if I might have inadvertently highlighted a mediocre game. This was mainly due to its striking resemblance to numerous other dark fantasy side-scrollers — gritty yet vibrant, as if someone had inflated Castlevania with a bicycle pump or carved into Trine with a chisel. The game has its share of RPG classes, skill trees, and a crafting system with hundreds of items to acquire.

Lenovo’s RTX 5080 Legion Pro 7i Gen 10 Laptop Now Available for Pre-orders and Shipping
Source: Rock Paper Shotgun – April 17, 2025
The Legion Pro 7i Gen 10 laptop from Lenovo is now officially available for pre-order, with shipments already underway. This top-tier gaming laptop, priced at $3,599.99, doesn’t shy away from delivering exceptional performance. Orders can be placed directly on Lenovo’s website, with deliveries expected to start as early as the end of April.
This isn’t a minor upgrade with reused components from previous models. Instead, the Gen 10 version brings significant enhancements. Powered by Intel’s new Core Ultra 9 275HX processor, it feels like a worthy successor to the i9-14900HX. Unlike its predecessor, the 185H, which was touted as the flagship model, this new release doesn’t compromise on power efficiency.

Diablo 4 Announces Unexpected Collaboration with Berserk
Source: Rock Paper Shotgun – April 17, 2025
Earlier this month, Blizzard revealed its roadmap for Diablo 4 in 2025, hinting that several collaborations are in the pipeline. While the specific details of these collaborations were not disclosed, the announcement sparked curiosity nonetheless. Despite the recent trend of collaborations sometimes feeling overwhelming, Blizzard managed to pique interest with their first reveal – a partnership with the renowned dark fantasy series, Berserk.
Indeed, this is the same Berserk that significantly influenced aspects of other popular franchises. Its impact can be seen in the creation of Dark Souls, Cloud’s distinctive giant buster sword in Final Fantasy, and the inception of the dark knight role in the same series.

Bloober’s Success Continues with Cronos: The New Dawn, the Survival Horror Sequel to Silent Hill 2
Source: Eurogamer – April 17, 2025
As I sat in a dimly lit San Francisco hotel room, engrossed in a hands-off demo of Bloober’s survival horror game Cronos: The New Dawn, it was evident that the Polish developer had gained significant confidence from its successful remake of Silent Hill 2. Even though a different team within Bloober crafted Cronos, the impactful experience of creating Silent Hill 2 has clearly influenced their fresh approach to the survival horror genre. The announcement of Cronos came in October of the previous year, during a conversation I had with the game’s co-directors about their aspirations to follow in Konami’s footsteps.

Tracer, Overwatch 2’s Poster Character, Will Not Feature in New Stadium Mode at Launch
Source: Rock Paper Shotgun – April 17, 2025
Earlier this year, Overwatch 2 announced its Stadium mode, a fresh round-based mode that allows players to purchase upgrade items throughout the rounds. These purchases offer various buffs, gear, and other enhancements, providing an edge in the best-of-seven rounds competition. Intriguingly, the mode introduces a third-person perspective to the franchise for the first time, a feature that seems overdue given the game’s emphasis on skins. However, the launch does not include every character in the roster, most notably, the iconic character Tracer is missing. This decision wasn’t made lightly or for comedic effect. In a recent roundtable discussion (credit to PCGamesN), Overwatch 2 game director Aaron Keller, senior game designer Dylan Snyder, and lead level designer Ryan Smith elucidated the reasoning behind the selection of the initial 17 characters and the conspicuous absence of Tracer.

Amplitude Regains Independence from Sega: The Story Behind Endless Legends
Source: Rock Paper Shotgun – April 17, 2025
Sega, one of the major game publishers, is currently making significant sacrifices in its business for the sake of profit growth. In September 2023, Sega cancelled Creative Assembly’s looter shooter game, Hyenas, and declared a cost-cutting strategy across Sega Europe. Following this, in January, 61 staff members at Sega of America in California were laid off. Additionally, another 240 job cuts were made across Creative Assembly, Hardlight, and other Sega operations in Europe. It has been a challenging period, yet there have been some positive developments. The most notable of these was in November of the previous year, when Amplitude Studios, the developers behind Endless Legend and Humankind, announced their separation from Sega to regain independence, facilitated by a management buyout.
